Russ Golightly P.Eng, LEED™ Accredited Professional, SMART Management Certified
Project Manager, The City of Calgary

Russ graduated as a Civil Engineer from the University of Calgary and has worked in several areas of consulting before landing into municipal projects.  He has worked in construction as well as oil & gas for Colt Engineering.  It was his work at Reid Crowther that opened the door to working at The City of Calgary.  Russ has been working with The City of Calgary since 1999.

Russ is the project manager responsible for the current construction of the municipality’s first nationally-rated office structure. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (or LEED™ for short), is a voluntary green building rating program which the Water Centre will be applying for. Initially developed in the US, the Canadian Green Building Council now administers LEED to encourage measurable limits to the negative environmental and human impacts of conventional buildings by promoting the design and construction of environmentally sustainable buildings.

The City of Calgary has adopted a sustainable buildings policy where all newly constructed facilities must be constructed to a LEED™-Silver rating (or better).  Projects are planned and managed using the SMART Management framework.

The Water Centre is the City’s latest and largest green building initiative. This facility has been strategically designed and constructed with the wellbeing of the environment — both natural and built — in mind.

This project is to demonstrate the practices of integrated design, sustainable design, triple bottom line delivery and successful project management from all stakeholders
