Jim Sawers received his B.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland and worked exclusively in the consulting engineering field until he joined the University of Calgary in 2006 as Director of Campus Engineering. Jim was previously a principal and Calgary office manager for Keen Engineering and prior to that Vice President of Building Engineering for a major Western Canadian consulting engineering firm.

Jim is a LEED® Accredited Professional; has been the recipient of an international ASHRAE Energy Award and several Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) Awards; has published technical papers on building engineering issues, has contributed to several provincial and national Canadian standards, and has made many presentations on energy use and green building design.
Jim introduced “in-floor” radiant slab cooling to Canada through his work on the University of Calgary Information and Communications Technology Building and helped pioneer under-floor air systems in Calgary.

Through his design work Jim has contributed to LEED® Silver, Gold and Platinum buildings.
