Organizational Training & Delivery of Services

1982-2007

Telephone Offences Investigator and Coordinator in the Communications Section/ Public Safety Communications. Investigation of over 1500 Telephone offences complaints to successful resolve. Also responsible for data recovery of all audio files for CPS personnel and their perspective investigations, pursuits, training and audit.
FOIP and PIPEDA Specialist for the area.

• 25 years of over five hundred presentations to interested groups, all levels of the organization, locally, provincially, nationally and internationally, to increase public awareness and education of law enforcement issues.

• Expedited communication between upper level management and general personnel with respect to policy development issues, training and numerous internal and external organizational committees. Instructed and coordinated specialized training in specialist crime prevention strategies to national and international law enforcement.

Achievements

Canadian Police Officers Guide to Crime Prevention (Copyright Calgary police Service)
This project involved producing and Interactive CD with over 1000 pages and 60 Chapters on Crime Prevention in Canada. This included a full photography section, a definition section complete with instant website linking. This project was over a year in the making, volunteering over 400 hours of my personal time. This work is only used internally within the CPS due to copyright restrictions.

Development and Implementation of the Builders Watch Program
This program was accepted by and is now sponsored by the Calgary Region Home Builders Association and involves over 80% of the new home construction industry. Since its launch in 1997, crime has decreased on average 25% to this industry in Calgary.

Co developer of the Crime Free Multi Housing Program (CFMH) in Alberta
This program was developed and originated in Mesa Arizona, USA was brought to Calgary to replace the virtually non-existent Apartment Watch Program, is now sponsored by the Alberta Residential Rental Association, and is a Province wide program. It has proven to reduce crime on average 70% in over 1700 cities in North America.

Co Developer and Instructor of CyberCrime Prevention for Law Enforcement and Security Professionals
This 32-hour course was developed by the CPS Crime Prevention Unit in partnership with University of Calgary and was launched in April 2002 to educate police, security, academia and business professionals on CyberCrime, Emerging Technology and proper securing of and seizure at CyberCrime scenes. A second course is slated for November 2002 and an advanced course is under construction.

CPS Crime Prevention Unit Recognized Internationally for Best Practices in creating awareness and CyberCrime Prevention, by the International Society for Policing Cyber Space

Two time receiver of The Calgary Safe City Award, June 1998 and 2004
This Award is presented each year by the Calgary Apartment Association to a Calgary Police Officer that provides outstanding service to the reduction of crime and to increasing the quality of life for the over 40,000 apartment units in the Calgary Area

Mayors Award for Accessibility, October 2001
Presented to the Calgary Police Service Crime Prevention Unit, Cst Gerry Bailey and Cst Shalin Kashyap, Linnie Tse, and Homes by Avi for the Universal Home for Safe Living.

Deputy Chiefs Award, November 2001
Presented for outstanding contribution in the field of Crime Prevention.

 

Media and Public Relations

A primary spokesperson for the Calgary Police Service, Crime Prevention Unit with respect to Crime Prevention, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and Cyber Crime

Responsible for all media requests to the Crime Prevention Unit of the CPS, which include: TV, radio, newspaper, magazine articles, live interviews and public forums. I have participated in numerous media events and have acquired a solid base of knowledge and expertise in responding to and working with media and Coordinating media events with CPS Public Affairs Unit. Providing support, critical information, and assistance to CPS Public Affairs Unit for Executive presentations, speeches, and program launches.
