Barry Wylant has degrees in both architecture and industrial design and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Environmental Design at the University of Calgary and a partner in WILLIAMDEAN Product Design, an industrial design consultancy. His research interest lies in the theoretical areas of design thinking and innovation. Recent work includes his collaborative effort as one of the contributing editors to the book Enabling Solutions for Sustainable Living: A Workshop with Ezio Manzini and Stuart Walker, and the publication of the article “Design Thinking and the Experience of Innovation” in the MIT Journal, Design Issues (Volume XXIV, No. 2, Spring 2008).

Barry’s professional practice serves many Alberta based companies, providing product development and design expertise that allows clients to successfully reach international markets. Product areas include consumer electronics, medical product design, assistive electronics for people with disabilities, and sporting goods. His professional industrial design work has been recognized with awards in the publication International Design (ID) and at the Consumer Electronics Show.
